Spitfire 2500 miles / 5000

Tue Jul 31, 2018 10:33 pm

Made it to the destination, Comox BC, today.

The gun bay fuel tanks allowed long range legs, and that Merlin is a gem. It purred. And a gigantic H was on the weather map, spreading over half the USA.

My FB page has the photos.

Return journey starts about Aug 20.

Awesome :) Can we expect a written diary of the trip?

Glad to hear it went so well Dave.
I can just imagine, how great it must have been, to be greeted by none other than Stocky Edwards.
That's just amazing!

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Were you able to find room in it for the Phoenix and Reserve Grand Champion awards as well as the 2 Golden Wrenches?

Great to hear you made it! She looks like a real winner on the circuit and I hope this is the first year of many.

The Spitfire, your great talks, and the concert were highlights of Oshkosh for us, thanks!

Well that's very nice. Thanks!

David Hartman is one of the best interviewers in the world.

Sure was a busy Airventure for me. I never even got a chance to see the Vintage section, or any of the exhibits. Total success, but tasked.

It'd be nice next year to bring the Fairchild and just relax and enjoy the event.

They went back in the van -- and generated a party in the hangar!

We left them three Spitfire beer to toast the accomplishment! By the way how was yours?

I drank that Spitfire beer in the hotel room in Burlington WA. I'd forgotten about it. But as I unpacked, me all hot and sweaty and tired from 3 long legs, THERE IT WAS!

On ice quick, down it went, and thank you to the re-enactors who gave it to us.

I'm on FB under Dave Hadfield. I was pretty busy, but did get some pictures logged.

Hi Dave,

If you were heading cross country and had a problem (not a technical problem but say, a weather problem) what would be a min strip length for a diversion for the Spit? 3000'? 3500'? Just curious what you'd need to operate it out of.
