My latest DUAN book review is now online covering the history and use of the 1930s vintage J2F Duck and the type's service during WW2 and beyond. Interestingly some J2F Ducks remain preserved in museums while others are flown as warbirds.

The review doesn't specifically mention it, but any discussion about the Duck needs to include the thoughts of Frank Tallman who famously flew a pair for the film Murphy's War...which seemed to popularize the type. His firm also flew one in several episodes of Black Sheep Squadron.

An article about his work in the type is here:

Likewise, I'd recommend his book Flying the Old Planes.

If I may add a comment to the review: Based on one recent volume, I've found this new series by Schiffer publishing...unlike their previous detailed (and occasionally expensive) books on various types...is best viewed as a detailed, but brief, well illustrated overview rather than a definitive history of a type.
In other words, type experts aren't likely to learn much new information, but those with a casual interest will find it satisfying.
But at the price, they're very good value for money.
