Gordon Kibby, that's a name from the past. I knew him from Livermore, when he had his T-6. I wonder where his T-6 is now?

We flew it as “Pacific Prowler” before it was sold a few years ago to Scott Glover at Mid America Flight Museum in Mt Pleasant, Texas. She now has new nose art and is named “For God and Country”. Also is polished to the brightest shine possible. She found a good home. The B25 is great fun to fly and taxiing, well, not so much. The brakes are what make the old saying true,” If you can taxi the beast, you can pass the type ride.” It was an honor to fly this particular B25 due to the history of who flew it and the 88 or so movies that it was used as a camera platform. It also shot the original Disney 360 Degree movie shown at Disney World for years. 9 cameras arranged in a circular fashion on a platform were lowered on a boom out of the bombbay and shot the action while flying low over the various scenes. Great memories!

Pretty cool that you got to spend some time flying this iconic aircraft. Earlier this year Chet Garner and crew of "The Daytripper" TV show toured Mid America as well as nearby Pittsburg for those splendid little flavor bombs...The Pittsburg Hot Links. An episode worth watching when the reruns come around.

Wow, hearing Frank Welker (aka Fred of Scooby Doo) as the pilot makes perfect sense for some reason.

Regarding Stoney's comment on the touchy brakes. I volunteered with a man who worked the brake system on a regularly flying B-25 some years ago. The brakes were so touchy they were burning tires down to the cord. There is a valve system that steps down the hydraulic system pressure to something suitable for braking action and it was replaced with an "overhauled" unit. The brakes were still touchy so they opened up the valve and found the key to it was a spool valve that shifted the fluid from high pressure to low. The spool valve was made of phenolic and over 50 years had disentigrated allowing full system pressure to go to the brakes. They made a new spool valve out of stainless stock and had the best brakes of any B-25 flying.

Dear Stoney (Len),
This is such an amazing story! I'm sorry I didn't answer earlier, but I haven't been in the forum for some time.
As you can guess (see my nickname) I'm a big fan of "Catch 22" - the book and the movie. And yes, they are different and I love them both. I have read the book for the first time when I was in grade 9 or 10. After that I read it several more times. I don't know how many times I watched the movie, especially since I have it on a disk. During the last 10-15 years I'm collecting articles, memoirs and essays about Heller, his war time, the real people behind the novel, about the movie etc. Exactly 10 years ago I bought the Warbirds International Magazine (Vol.24, No.4, Mai-June 2008) and what a lucky moment this was for me: there was a long article by Frank Tallman in that issue, about the making of "Catch 22". It's very similar to your story, but from a different perspective. The photos below are part of that article. I don't know where are you in the pilots photo, but I believe you'll tell us.
There is also a list with all a/cs used during the filming and I'm attaching it as well. Compared to your own list there is some more information about every B-25 e.g. real serials, "battle number" in the movie etc.

And here is "your" "Mitchell":

Since 2008 AFAIK some of the above "Mitchells" changed their owners and/or names.
If somebody wants to read the whole article, please inform me and I'll post a copy for download.
Best Regards!

Has anyone ever seen the Catch-22 TV pilot starring Richard Dreyfus? It "lost" to MASH in 1970 and it seems to be lost to history...it's not even on YouTube!

There's a saying that if you've seen an American cartoon you've heard Frank. The same could be said for about 50% of movies too!
