Yesterday, November 7, 2017, Boeing C-97 "Angel of Deliverance" lifted off from Floyd Bennett Field, becoming the last fixed wing aircraft to fly out of there.

It had an uneventful flight to MJX (Robert J. Miller Airpark) in Berkeley Township, NJ for a fuel and PR stop.
At about 1:15PM, the "Angel" took off again for Reading Regional Airport. At around 1:45, she touched down at Reading ending yet another trouble free flight.

Takeoff video from Floyd Bennett Field can be seen here:

What's next? Flight training, we are still going to need to acquire more spares, and we are looking for a permanent home.

What do we need? Funding Funding Funding!

Enjoy the video!

Hi Kevin,

Will you be able to get any parts from the Chanute C-97 before it gets cut up? Hate to see it go to waste.

I dont think so. Theyre pretty specific about chopping it into little bits before selling the scrap to anyone..

Ridiculous, isnt it?

Wow, so cool finally got it flying. So exactly what is the cruise fuel consumption per engine? I'm guessing 150 gal per hour?

Right now, its at around 400GPH for the whole airplane. However, as we gain experience, we feel we can get better consumption as we find the sweet spot regarding power settings for the relatively light weights we're at.

A jet will never beat that economy, never. And those old planes were not slow either, close to 400 mph. To save fuel nowadays I don't think the passenger jets do too much over that. So everything is moving to some other location? Will it be inside a hanger or in the weather?

Yes but like I said they back wayyyy off the throttle to cruise on the jets. Even watching them fly and guesstimate of distance they fly in a given time, its not even close to 600 mph. Yes they are capable of fast but at what cost? With the initial cost of a jet engine, what around 10 million $ and then the maintenance costs especially a bird hit or volcanic dust, engine overhauls into the millions, even with the overhauls for advanced recips they would be astronomically less expensive than jets, especially if they were compounded diesels, I think propeller planes are the future for winged aircraft, when magnetic motors are the norm they will be turning props. Oh and all electric motors are magnetic in operation.

You're probably right, jets are just a fad.
