Hello all. One of the main reason I run this page and the Warbirds Resource Group as a whole is to help preserve history and to make it freely and readily available to anyone who seeks knowledge. One aspect of history is war memorials. We drive past them every day, usually unaware of there presence. With the way the world is today these memorials, regardless of what the memorial represents, are under attack. They are being removed due to revisionist history, political correctness or just because there representation of violence is "Harshing my mello"

A few years ago I started dabbling in a side project called the War Memorial Registry (http://www.warmemorialregistry.org/). It's just a framework and I want to make it into more of a wiki type page but for now it's a start. However, I can't do it all by myself. That's where you all come in. I want you to look around you during your day. Look for flags that seem misplaced. Usually there is a memorial next to them. It doesn't matter if it's a piece of military hardware, a plane on a stick or a simple plaque or sign. I want to document it. This is not a U.S. thing, this is a world wide project. If there is a memorial near you I want it documented (politics don't matter)

It can be as simple as taking a picture to as detailed as you want to make it. At the very least I need a picture and a location. You can send them to the WMR E-mail (see attached image, an anti-spam measure)

submit@WMR.jpg

Feel free to post them in this thread also, just please make sure some location is included (Address or GPS).

I will be collecting them for awhile and once I get the new code formulated I will start including them.

Lets get these documented before they are gone. Thanks for your help.

Hi Scott,
Can't think of a better one to start with.

John Basilone Monument, on W. Somerset Street in his home town Raritan, NJ.
The first enlisted US Marine to be awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross.
"Hero of Guadalcanal", killed in action on Iwo Jima.
15,000 attended the dedication of this monument on June 6th, 1948.
A parade in his honor is held annually.

Theses were taken by my ex with the express intent of adding them to the Memorial registry. Wasn't my ex when they were taken, when the project was announced
