This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I understand ground visitors to that site have been a real pain. Still, I would love to access it for a time!

The "museum" compound at China Lake currently contains the aircraft listed below.
Those visiting the airshow in March drove out right past it.
Forgive the cut and paste.

There is also another B-29 out on the range.... according to historic aerials...its been in the same spot since 1972... albeit missing a few parts.

It should be 44-62134, the white-painted one that was on Echo range.
Erratum: it's this one: TB-29-75-BW s/n 44-70102 '84'.

I suspect the chances of getting the engines off of the C-97 approach 0% huh?

That's the SB-29 on Airport Lake. Yes, it got blown up, it was slated for saving, but some bomb jockey hit it anyway. At least that's what I was told. The cockpit section vanished right about the time Doc was moved off base...

Sure that isn't the Kee Bird?

'Here's Hopin' was here as well, & maybe a 3rd B-29 as well (I could be wrong, memory ain't what it used to be) this was back when Google satellite images first appeared

Cockpit section went to Inyokern for a museum there. It was SB-29-70-BW s/n 44-69957 - seen here circa 1987:

Pretty sure the Kee Bird is in Greenland and not California.

That cockpit left with Doc. The "museum" in Inyokern isn't there anymore. It folded up and vanished right after Doc left.

I'd like to see a "street view" of the OV-10 in the NE corner and the P-3 to the SW.
