Hello,

Some of you may know that I work for a British company - GateGuards who make full-size aircraft replicas for the Movie World and for Museums and collectors too. We have this week given a quote to some gentlemen in Florida for a P-51D, but they are now enquiring if we could build them a B-26 Invader as well to be placed outside on a pole at another Museum.

We could make one (we basically can make anything) but I would presume that there are lots of Invaders left in America and so am asking here, does anyone know of an airframe that the Museum could purchase, instead of us building one from scratch? From what I can gather from their emails is that it would have to have a gun nose.

Any information received would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A-26's are not exactly highly desired warbirds, so you shouldn't have that difficult of a time obtaining one. For what you get, they are relatively inexpensive. The only one I know of for sale at the moment is the one down in Australia owned by forum regular, "reevers", who posts here often. The only thing is the transportation cost to ship it from Australia to Great Britain might cost the same as the acquisition itself. Also, there was a real nice A-26 for sale in France recently, but I don't know if it sold already.

I would also suggest you contact Simon Brown at Platinum Fighters:

http://www.platinumfighters.com/

Simon is a very nice guy, extremely knowledgeable and knows his warbirds! He's also very easy to talk to and deal with. He has extensive contacts throughout the world and can locate an A/B-26 for you - guaranteed. He does a lot of deals that never even make it onto his website, and many transactions are done in private between his clients. The recent Hellcat trade/transaction is an example of one that was not advertised until after the fact. He would be my #1 "go-to" guy.

Good luck!

Can you elaborate on "The recent Hellcat trade/transaction"? It looks like I might have missed that one.

Thanks,

Mac

This might be a viable project for a static restoration.

I don't know if Kermit would ever sell anything, but:

Gun nose, already been outdoors for decades and never crashed, and was externally complete, so... good for a static?

There was one on eBay not long ago for sale. I believe it was located in Santa Terese New Mexico.

I think these guys have the one that was on the top of a building in Toronto for many years....reportedly in storage for quite a few years now.

Are A-26's single pilot? or do you need a rated SIC to fly?

Single pilot. Only some for training had dual controls.

This one is for sale currently in the US but it's an On Mark Marksmen. Pretty civilianized.

If it's to be a polesitter, is it not better to make a fibreglass one?

Air Spray in Alberta Canada should still have a few a26 left. They havent been used in years. I believe there is a very rare fuselage sitting out in a field with there parts, it is an "On Mark Marksman", but it was rough last time I saw pics. They also have wings and the empenage from a few that were burnt in a hanger fire. Im sure they would sell if an opprtunity came along
