Hey Paul,
Just moved back to southern CA and drove by the old Joshua Tree airport - buildings are still there along with some sort of old fuselage/weather vane thing, but the whole place is now enclosed by a chain link fence and appears to be part of some kind of other business (sand & gravel?).

(I'm on a borrowed computer for the next week or so but I'll check into WIX now and then. :) )

In the past year, entries for an additional 75 airfields have been added to the "Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields" website at www.airfieldsfreeman.com. This brings the site's coverage to a total of 2,589 airfields, across all 50 states. I hope the website's given you some positive distraction in what's been some challenging times.

Recent entries include new additions describing former airfields such as Baldani Airfield CA, Cobb Airport GA, Loveland Airport CO, Corvallis Airport OR, Lyndon Airport OR, Flying Gators Airpark FL, Stroudsburg-Pocono Airport PA, Martin Field AL, Carter Memorial Airport TX, Skycrest Country Club Airfield IL, Ideal Manufacturing Corp Airfield NJ, Hoby Wolf Airport MD, May Airport NC, Giant City State Park Airfield IL, DEC Heliport MA, Altadena Airport CA, Waynoka-Kelsey Airport OK, Scherr Airport KS, Corvallis Junctional Airport OR, Trinity Field AL, Alvin Airport TX, Continental Airfield AZ, Beaver Dam Auxiliary Field AL, and updates to many others.

Hyde Field, MD is where I trained in the Bell 47 circa 1996-7.
The late '40s early 50s FBO/terminal was falling down, but the rest of the hangars looked good.

There was another small field a couple of miles to the north.
It was almost closed then, it made Hyde look like Van Nuys.

My avatar photo was taken there. Shot is looking NW.

Paul, I am forever in love with your website since I found it way back in 2002. It's been a great source of not only learning about neat places in history, but answering questions of "what the heck is that" that I've run into on more than one occasion while driving down the road or watching some old TV show or Movie. It's a great resource for those curious about where things have gone and why certain things look the way they do.

Thank you.

Hmmm. We do a lot of coverage with our aerial photography missions. Are modern day photos welcome?

Also, is there a way to plot a bunch of these out on a Google Maps feature?
