One more for the under restoration list:

The PBY-6 at Grant County Airport, Moses Lake, WA.
I spoke with the owner/restorer 3 or so years ago, and he was plugging away at it.
It was the last PBY built and sold for fire fighting, but never converted.
It still has the nose turret. He also told me it has, or he had acquired, many other stock interior parts.

It may be the most authentic ship flying when completed.

BuNo 64107/N9825Z. The Registry says it did fly with SLAFCO as Tanker 158:

What color scheme is this? Looks similar to North Atlantic. Cool scheme for a change. We operated with Canadian DE's And DD's which were a kind of seafoam green. Very sharp up close with their rounded open ocean bows and color, but off in the mist they were very hard to see. Glad to see she's up just in time for Canada's birthday celebrations!

It is now painted in the colours and markings of RCAF No. 162 Squadron and is dedicated to Flt. Lt. David Hornell, VC, who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. On June 24 1944, he and his crew sank the German submarine U-1225. During the attack, the aircraft was shot down and Hornell and his crew spent more than 20 hours floating in the cold Atlantic, before being rescued. Sadly, Hornell died from exposure shortly after his rescue.

Thanks Thomas, that was he first place I went. It implies that No. 162 was the only outfit in Eastern Command that had that scheme even tho I've seen RAF B-17's in the same or similar scheme described as the maritime colors based out of the UK. Sorry, my 60's IPMS gene was begging for a tag for that scheme... :lol:

The paint scheme of overall white with extra dark sea grey and slate grey camo on the upper surfaces is usually associated with RAF Coastal Command and was applied to many UK-based RAF aircraft. The RCAF used variations of it on Cansos, Liberators, Hudsons, Venturas, Digbys etc. that served in east coast patrol and ASW units. One of the variations was solid extra dark sea grey rather than camo, and another was all white with no darker colors on top.

Thanks August! I was out sawing on a piece of lumber when I realized I said UK when I probably meant to say Britain...meaning the home island, as UK covers a lot more territory including Canada...I think. I just came in to correct that, when happily you were in the process of answering. So the scheme doesn't really have a name attached to the description?

The UK does not include Canada,your thinking of the British Commonwealth,the UK is England ,Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Sounds like American Aero, along with all it's other restorations, may also be going into the boat building business.
As mentioned earlier in this thread "a black cat" is also there.

It may have flown to Washington with a tanker call sign, but according to its owner (who has spent years working on it) and my own inspection, it was never CONVERTED into a tanker.

I don't think it would have been sold directly from being built to waterbomber conversion as they didn't start to use them as waterbombers till the very late 1950,s or early 60,s ,seen pics of a very earlier one as a test with external tanks mounted by the wing struts...
