Not sure it meets your criteria for experts, but these guys certainly know their way around a PBY and know where to look for corrosion...

I can see what looks like a black fuselage of a "PBY" in front of American Aero on Google Earth view - any ideas about its identity or that of the other one you've apparently seen there?

Well, it's not like I'd ask a whole squadron of volunteers to go do a "pre-buy" in Montreal. On the other hand, if there is one who is, or even a couple of members who are, particularly knowledgeable and "expert" on the type, that might be worth knowing...

Do any of them have previous experience on PBY's or are they all self-taught via OJT during their current restoration project?

Yup...that would be one of them (pic below).....I pm'd you the info on the other one. I have pics of 4 more old flyers (not PBY's) in a hanger on the other side of the New Smyrna airport. I took those pics last week. I haven't seen those planes before. One guy owns all of them.

The PBY is about 15 M from were I live.

But the short list I can see includes:
- Canvas (not a small job on a PBY)
- Engines (no carburators for 15 years)
- Landing gears (really corroded) & tires
- Various small airframe dings
- All radios removed

The rest looks no too bad actually.

Last time I visited the inside 10 years ago it was not too bad and fair.

Speaking of canvas, is there an STC or has anybody otherwise "metalized" the aft half of a PBY wing like was so common on Gooses? For the most part, flight controls remained fabric-covered, but it was very common to replace the fabric on the wing from the aft spar to the trailing edge with .025 24ST / 2024-T3. In fact, I know of multiple STCs to do that on a Goose.

Reading the listing for the Bird Innovator PBY for sale on Courtesy it say it has "Metalized Trailing Edge Wing Sections" so I assume they were replaced.

I'm not in the loop on who knows what in Duluth, but I would imagine it is like many outfits where a handful of volunteers have the knowledge you are asking about. Combining 2 PBYs into one has given them the opportunity to come to know many of the "gotchas" unique to the PBY and what critical areas need a deeper look.

I think that it would have been nicer if you had included a link or some actual details - if there are any....
