This was taken about 10 years ago at Baghdad Airport. Since there was a war going on (still is) there, it seems we can skirt the edges of "warbird." In any case, I thought one of you guys might be able to say what this is. I'm thinking late-40s English transport? Could be totally wrong.

I posted pictures of this airplane, and all the other stuff at Baghdad, here on wix when we first took the airport. I had interior shots and the airplane's serial number,548, posted before I got out of the country. Hadn't thought about it in years and would have to get out my log books to figure out when exactly it was but it seems like early April of 03.

Very cool, I'll have to see if I can find those interior shots.

This pic was from a friend who took it in the 08/09 time period.

BTW, my friend said he'd be trying for 9 years to ID this plane.

WIX did it in 7 minutes.

Just goes to show, if you have a question requiring a certain expertise, you need to ask the right people!

Just in case anyone is interested in what a whole example of the aircraft looks like, here ya' go:

...and here's what it looks and sounds like with engines running and flying. It's quite the odd looking duck in the air.
