How do you know that C-130 is from ECity....was it on the back of the pic?

Coastie John,

The aircraft was eventually moved up to the air terminal build with engines running in preparation for departure. It was then I noted the "Elizabeth City" marking. Too late to run back to the BOQ for my camera. At the time I thought it was strange to see a USCG aircraft so far from its home base. The posted picture is a bit fuzzy as I had my first ever camera and I may well have been shooting my first roll of film. In those days there was no such thing as thru the lens metering. I had to use a separate light meter and familiarize myself with all the strange new terms (e.g. f-stop, shutter speed, depth of field, ASA....). I did once note a USCG C-123 from Agana, Guam pass thru Kwajalein. It was used for servicing the various LORAN stations in Micronesia.

Ok....thank you. That is pretty good being there to capture a picture from so long ago. I'll have to ask around with the old timers why an ECity C-130 was operating in the Pacific. I would have thought one of the west coast C-130's would do the deployments.

This is the Louisville river front, Early 1950’s I think. This came from an album that was donated to MSO Louisville, of course the album disappeared . I have no idea why this was here, not a common place to see CG aircraft. Sikorsky HO3S-1G

This pic is an interesting one. I have seen a pic on EBay of a CG helo wearing experimental floats that looked very similar. I'll have to ask around on this one. It's possible they are experimenting with float landings on that barge??

No I do not. There are a few (alot) of errors and missing info in there. We have someone trying to correct them via a separate venue. One day soon I hope this "someone's" 40-something years of research will be made public. The CG did not do a very good job tracking it's aviation history way back when. It seems like we are always learning something new with every clue we follow.

These are fairly new pics we located last year. I knew one of our Ten Pound Island aircraft hit a passing ship/schooner on take-off. It was non-fatal. I found it researching old CG newspaper articles. Sometime afterward I located the family members of the pilot and they were gracious enough to let us copy their pics and documents of their great uncle. He was one of the original pilots in the first CG Aviation Group in 1917. There is a couple of good stories with him.

One of our guys located this color news release from 7/1945 in Guam. I seen it is also on Youtube. At 5:20 it shows a CG B-24.

On page 16 of the below pdf, there is a great article on this airplane, the aircrew and what they did in the Pacific.

The photos above seem to show a Loening. Correct?

I can recommend a seemingly little-known book on the type if you are interested.
