A buddy from a gun forum I am a member of came across a phot album with B-29 nose art, crew photos and buildings. Looks like it's from Saipan around 1945. The antique store that has it is asking $400.00 (Good or bad price I don't know, neither does my buddy). My buddy believes he has identified the original owner of the photo album, but I don't have his permission to post the name as of yet. If he can't reach a deal with the store owner and someone is interested in obtaining the photo album send me an email at ffuries@comcast.net or message me here with your e-mail address and I will forward it to him to contact you with the stores information. There are also some pictures of P-38's, B-24's, battle damage, and wrecks!

Here is the list of AC nose art pictures in the album, any information on these AC is greatly welcomed.

Here is more info from Richard- an aviation historian associated with the Frisco Nannie, I do not have permission to use his last name, but he is researching some these nose art photos from the planes in this 1945 album. I am the guy that has borrowed the photo album, but was unable to purchase it yet. I have pics of the nose art, but can not post till I get the antique owners permission or get the book. So I hope to be able to post the original nose art photos from Saipan in the future. Here is info that Richard provided this old jarhead. Sorry I not an Air Force guy, a Marine tanker M48A3s, but dad was a Corsair mechanic in the USMC in WWII. If I am lucky to get ownership of this album, I hope to find/research the crews of each plane and will post the single original 2x3 inch B&W picture of each plane taken in 1945.
On a side note, I also have a local B17 pilots stuff and 400 original letters from Lt. Henry Frederick Renard of West Bend WI. I had to save his stuff from the garbage and traded a 1963 truck for his stuff. But at least it is saved. Our state historical society has his oral history, but not a copy of his War time diary. If anyone should have a copy or transcription of his war time diary please contact me. One member is likely to have it, but he or she never returned my contact, most likely because I was not a member?
As an old archaeologist, I find saving this info fantastic.

Good for you for saving those items!
Do you know at which base Lt. Renard received his four-engine training?

Glad to see you joined up and posted an update. Been thinking of the album throughout the day, while the pictures are available piecemeal on the Internet, the fact all these are in the vets photo album and have hand written notes on the back, the $400.00 might not be that far off the mark. It might be on the high side, but it could and might go for that amount. Draw back is someone buying it and breaking it up to sale off.

Here is the link to some of Henry's stuff, The main uniform and dress hat was sold off before I stumbled onto the find. I do not know his planes name or if it had nose art. I have no photos of the B17 he was copilot in with Lt. Rains. Anyone have the name or photo of the plane please let me know or post the information. Here is the link to the post in the rifle forum I am more active on:
http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewto ... 3#p1076223

Also see this info about the Lt Rains
https://rascal2.websitetoolbox.com/post ... ow-2938781

This is the person I attempted to contact but had no answer in 2016but its old info from 2009 ( from above source) :
Joel
463rd BG Historian
Proud son of 1/Lt Leroy J. Swindlehurst (1921-1950)
Navigator, 772nd Squadron
Joel@463rd.org

Renard's oral history is at the VETERANS MUSEUM, Oral history interview with henry F. Renard 1996 by Mark Van Ellis, WI Veterans Museum. There is a written transcription of the interview at World Cat archival material. 93 pages long.
so if any one knows Renard's planes name, has a photo of it, or has a copy of the diary please let me know.

Great find and if they are new previously unpublished photos that is fantastic. I collect B-29 nose art myself. Most of the planes mentioned are actually quite common though. In other words, their nose art has already been widely published. I of course haven't seen what you are looking at so I couldn't and shouldn't say any more then that.

Yes I have found out there are many published and on line photos of the B29 pictures in the album. None are unknown and from the list it appears the album pictures were taken between 24 Nov 1944 and 9 Jan 1945. The antique guy did not have the owners name and got it from an estate clean up not the same name as in the book. I have to figure out how to post a photo in the forum so it is permanent. If I use photobucket the photos disappear if the site goes down or they freeze the free account.

Here is possible owners name, but I can not make it out:

Cpl. Oscar Schan??? , Schauble, Schanlk, Schaufle who can read this?

Here is an example of a page in the album:

The pictures of the nose art (all Know from other photos) in this album are 2x3 inches B&W and look about like this one:

I can post all 19 photos of the nose art B29s if any interest. I just got to put them into photobucket. It may take up too must space and moderators may not like it. Like I say, there are all sorts of photos on line of each B29.
