 Post subject: Texas ANG F101 fate?

Can anyone remember a Texas ANG F101 coming to London Ontario in June of 1982? It sat at the airport for a year before being dismantled byt Bell aerospace and roaded up to Grand Bend airport for some testing work. I was wondering what ever happened to it after the testing was over? I have attached a pic of the old London Free Press article about it in June 1983.

As a side note to this, I remember 1983 as being the last time the CF101s participated at London International airshow. Just prior to their display, one of the Cf101s went mechanical and a quick trip over the Texas ANG bird soon had the spare parts that were needed!

Boy, that breaks my heart. I watched those jets for years. They were so clean you could eat off of them.

They do keep turning up in the most unusual places though. We found one last year in a civilian yard outside of Mojave, then the two showed up the other day on WIX in Germany and San Antonio, now one in Canada. One came back to EFD last year, it had been loaned for static to a group in Victoria, TX. I know that one was flown to Holloman loaded up with fuel and missiles and then blown up to test the integrity of the revetment they put it in. Wonder how many are left.

The following was passed along to me on another matter.

"The air cushion landing system (ACLS) was used by Bell Aerospace after it was removed from the CC-115 when it was developing an experimental vehicle to move disabled aircraft. A former Texas ANG F-101B, 57-0308, as flown to London, Ontario in 1983. It was later partially dismantled and tucked to Goderich where the vehicle was used to lift it with air bags under the wings and then towed after the ACLS was powered up. I visited the 4950th Test Wing in May 1991, they had a photo of it being tested in winter with the ACLS blowing a huge cloud of snow into the
air.

If that indeed is the correct serial (and you news article seems to show that serial) that Voodoo survives and is a gate guard at Wilmington Airport in Wilmington, Ohio.

Another Texas Voodoo is in Ohio. This is s/n # 57-0342 which moved last year from Clearwater FLA, to Akron, Ohio for the MAPS Air Museum.

I believe there is one on a pole display just north of downtown Beaumont
Texas easily seen from Interstate 10. It's a F-101 but not sure it's a TANG Flying Texans 147th. or not.

Tom, when the Beaumont Voodoo was put on the pole, Houston was still flying them. 147th started the F-4C transition in 1984-85.

The one in Beaumont is from Michigan, I think. She really needs a paint job !

I shot this one (#80311) a few days ago in Devil's Lake, North Dakota at the regional airport there. It's a beautiful display for such a tiny little town way out in the northern wilds of the State.
