31 wrecks recovered from South Pacific

Just wanted to note there have been 31 aircraft wrecks recovered in the south Pacific from the last 10 years. That is a good number. Maybe some positivity for those looking to put the effort in recovering some more. :drink3:

Could you provide any information on the legal battle and results for these two Japanese aircraft? There is a Kate senter section listed on Preserved Axis AIrcraft as being in the UK - is this the Kate listed here (does not look to be enough to warrent a full restoration without the result being a reproduction).

I saw these three at WestPac in late September, 2010. I recently spoke with the owner of one of these. It will eventually be totally restored by WestPac as a flyer.

The Kate in the UK came from the Kurils and doesn't relate to this wreck.

A slight hijack - what A/C was Neel Kearby flying when he earned the MOH? One of the Fiery Gingers, I suppose? Can't find that info in a quick Google search.

It's cool that some parts of one of his planes still exist.

Could be this one- I dont believe it is the same as the Kurile bird. This one looks to be a former radar type.

Nice photo and dave is right : this is definitely not the one recovered from the Kuriles and now residing in the UK (that one was just a gutted centre section).

Dave : Is there anything you could tell us about this "75 Squadron". They apprently made a few very interesting recoveries but its all very "secretive".

No more than what is in the public domain I am afraid. SWP recovery work is fraught with problems, a lot of it man made as you will be aware. The lower the public profile for the guys trying to stop these wrecks from fading to dust or being scrapped, the better - even if it is frustrating for the rest of us!
