What that article doesn't say was that in addition, the ejection seats had for some reason been set to "one ejects, both ejects" on that flight, so the pilot should also have been ejected. But his seat malfunctioned and he was left in the plane...

You should delete “ Collings” from the title. Absolutely nothing in common. The RAfale is operated by the French Air Force and apparently this one was one of those complete with live ejection seats. Probably flown by a factory test pilot or military aviator.

Definitely, and there was no safety-of-flight maintenance issue here. Completely and totally unrelated except for the commonality of aviation in general.
