Museum of Flight in Seattle...........

Has anyone been by there lately? Just wondering how the new construction is coming along.

The Museum of Flight Seattle is less than 5 minutes from my office.(If the traffic lights cooperate)
I was by there twice today (Wednesday). They are making progress on the new building.
The B-17 is under cover and out of the weather.
The B-29 is still wrapped in plastic.
I can take frequent photos with ease, it is loading them to the forum that is problematic for me.

Thats always been a problem for me as well.

I don't live near the museum but I am a member and get there when I can.
The overhead structure is done but they're working on the finishing touches. The 17 was the only plane under cover the last time I was by there, but it's all blocked off to the public right now.

It will be an impressive building when it's done. If you take it into perspective from I-5 across the airport, it appears you can fit the existing Great Gallery and Personal Courage Wing entirely inside the new structure--both height and length.

It's a very solid structure, I watched them sink some of those beams into place. Seattle gets some pretty bad windstorms each winter and some truly awful ones every few years, a structure like this would have be very solidly anchored as it's an airfoil for strong winds.
Will be so nice to be able to walk around among the planes and finally not have to factor the rain into a visit.
So looking forward to seeing the B-17 and B-29 together again with the Superfort finally out of it's wrap...

It seemed for awhile that the museum's plans were to go "space centric".
Good to see that after not getting a Shuttle they've decided to focus on a "core capability".

In addition to being the de facto Boeing museum, I'd like to see them leverage that to become the world's preeminent airliner collection.

My, the modern catchphrases are coming thick and fast today...

They are getting ready to fly the very first 727 ever made in any time now. It is up at PAE getting ready for a one time short ferry flight down to the museum.

Currently 787 Dreamliner #3 is under cover next to the B-17 in the new building.
It's a big open ended structure at this point.

Complete your museum tour with an "old school" meal at Randy's diner about 150 yards south of the museum, it looks like an old Denny's. Lots to look at and read plus the food is pretty good too.

Give me an easy tutorial, on how to post photos to the forum and I'll post them.

1-You can become a subscriber. When you do you can post photos directly to the WIX.
2- Upload the pictures to Facebook, Flicker, Photo Bucket and then link them to the WIX.

Slight opportunistic deviation....

Ideally.....many new website updates and upgrades these days allow the members to upload photo's directly from their device (cell, laptop, etc) versus having to use a 3rd party host like Photobucket. Maybe WIX will do that with the next upgrade???? (hint implied :wink:

)

As nice as it is that they have a 787, I'd really prefer for them to get a DC-7.
