Hi,

To support our very successful flying program for the Lysander, we need a Parts Manual and an Overhaul Manual for a Bristol Mercury XX. Can anyone point me towards one?

Same thing for the Swordfish, need a Parts and an Overhaul Manual for a Bristol Pegasus XXX.

Any help regarding manuals or drawings (cylinders in particular) would be a great help.

We hope to fly them both in 2016.

Might be worth contacting the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden, and the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford as well.

Swordfish wise, the Royal Navy Historic Flight might be of help.

None of these sources are any good to us, but thanks for the mention. We've tried.

Bristol ended up as part of R-R, and they won't release any of this old stuff due to concerns about getting sued. Neither, it seems , will anyone else in the UK.

I was hoping that somebody on this forum might actually own these manuals.

Give the Aircraft Restoration Co at Duxford a try if you haven't already.

Not sure how much commonality there is between the XX and the IX, but it appears the library at Auburn University in Alabama has an original copy of the manual for the VII, VIII and IX Mercury.

Cranfield University in the UK appears to have the Pegasus manual (listed as a 3 volume set so likely comprehensive):

Sopwith, I believe we have already tried ARC. No joy.

DB2, that's interesting. I didn't know that library interface existed.

What they list is the "Bristol Pegasus Handbook". Does anybody know what that is? What we need is specs and drawings for overhauling the engines, particularly cylinders. And a parts manual, listing part numbers. Not just general reference.

TomW -- Yes, we are in contact with the RAF Museum, but it is very slow. We need to move forward so that we don't lose the 2016 season.

I expect you have, but have you tried Rockcliffe and/or Shearwater? Shearwater flew their Swordfish once.

Defending Stearmans on WIX since Jeff started badmouthing them back in 2005.

I think the RNHF had some pistons made for the Pegasus by Cosworth engineering and Cylinders made by Hanley Smith Aerospace , both U.K based company's.
If you don't want to buy from them they may be willing to supply the drawings ?.
