G’Day! Regular long term forum members will be very familiar with myself, James Kightly (AKA JDK) from Australia and stations west and east, and Dave Homewood both of this forum and his own ‘Wings Over New Zealand’.

Dave’s on a big trip to Australia at the moment, and we are visiting one of Australasia’s biggest warbird shows at the Temora Aviation Museum in New South Wales this weekend as the centrepiece for a great tour of aircraft museums, veterans and historic aviation personalities, so far in Victoria, but we will be visiting the capital, Canberra, and New South Wales.

Trip highlights so far have been the Australian National Aviation Museum at Moorabbin, with a complete Beaufighter on show, Dave meeting and interviewing Peter Issacson, the first pilot to bring a Lancaster to Australia and New Zealand (AND fly it under Sydney Harbour bridge) Dave’s first flight in a CT-4 Airtrainer ‘The Parrot’, visits to the Royal Australian Air Force Museum at Point Cook, home and origin of Australian military flying, and a visit to Ian Whitney, to talk about the recoveries of many aircraft from Papua New Guinea. And much more.

Please join us in the adventure. We’re posting pictures as we go, and sharing some thoughts as we can. The main recorded podcasts will be released when Dave’s back in NZ, but we’ve posted an intro show and a one take ‘live’ recording we made last night to give you a flavour of how we are tracking.

I wish I could make it to Warbirds Downunder this year. I went to the last show in 2013 and had a blast, so many Commonwealth types you rarely/never see here in the States. I looked at the line-up and it's even better than last time.

Obviously, if you guys are going to Canberra you'll visit the Australian War Memorial. One of the best military Memorial/Museum's in the world.

Thanks, BK! Yes, the AWM is def on the list, and we're very much looking forward to Temora which is what the visit's built around.

Looks like you sure got the dollar tour at Moorabin. I am green with transpacific warbird envy!

One of the great things about Werribee is that everyone gets the tour - its not a special arrangement for media or anything. Then they let you wander about the hangar (within safe areas of course) observing the many activities going on.

The "Wings Over Australia" sub-series of the Wings Over New Zealand Show starts right here, right now, with the first episode in the series that James Kightly and I recorded during the epic 17-day tour of Australia in November.

Our guest is Keith Webb, who for many years has devoted his time and skills to filming and recording interviews with Australian Air Force, Army and Navy veterans. He has also made several aviation DVD's. He gives a fascinating insight into the recording and preserving of first-hand history before it disappears.

The latest Wings Over New Zealand Show is now online, and it's another in the "Wings Over Australia" series.

"Episode 92 - WOA - Peter Isaacson" is an interview I did with 95-year-old Wing Commander Peter Isaacson AM, DFC, AFC, DFM, RAAF. He flew Wellington and Lancaster bombers in combat over Europe with No. 460 Squadron RAAF and No. 156 Squadron Pathfinder Force.

Following the completion of 45 operations over enemy territory, Peter and his crew were selected to take a brand new Lancaster from Britain to Australia, during which he became the first pilot to fly one of these large four-engined bombers across the Atlantic and Pacific route. On arrival in Australia, they were then assigned to fly the Lancaster to New Zealand, and Peter became the first pilot to fly any aircraft direct from Melbourne to New Zealand.
