Has anyone else heard about a new alternator that's currently getting FAA approval for R-985's / R-1340's ? Its supposed to have a built in regulator and be even lighter than Jasco units out there. The manufacturer was at Airventure 2015 but I can't remember their name.

BC415-H Alternator

The BC415-H is a high-performance spline-driven alternator for the Pratt & Whitney R985 Engine with a rated output of 30 amps @ cruise RPM. Constructed of all NEW materials (with absolutely NO “remanufactured” content), the BC415-H is designed for durable service, with heavy-duty sealed ball-bearings, two cooling fans, a dynamically balanced rotor, and a special "shear section" designed into the drive coupling. Measuring 4.6" wide and 6" deep, and weighing only 5.95 lbs.

The BC415-H is available for both 14 volt and 28 volt applications, and is externally-regulated. It should be appropriately matched with our LR3C-14 or LS-1A Controllers.

The R985 engine must have the Generator drive housing & shaftgear assembly installed for the BC415-H to mount up to.

NOTE: Use of non-B&C regulators/controllers may damage the alternator.

Never use the alternator as a charging point when charging the battery(s)

For Experimental Aircraft ONLY

Never heard of it, but be aware there are two generator pad drive ratios for the 1340. I think you need the faster turning one for the alternator, at least per the Jasco data. I had to change mine. If you just get an overhauled engine there is no telling what ratio you are receiving.

That's what Covington said when I originally approached them about going to an alternator. The only reason I havn't bought the Jasco setup was because I haven't wanted to run ducting to it and was told it's possible to overheat the unit.

The B/C Aero unit is half the weight as JASCO and is based on their other certified lightweight LYCOMING alternator that's been on the market for 15+ years.
