Two real B-25s were used (Photo Fanny from Planes Of Fame and Axis Nightmare from the Tri-State Warbird Museum, both are still painted in the colours they wore for the filming), as well as a C-47 (N147DC from the UK) and a Ju 52 (F-AZJU from France). However, CGI was used for background aircraft.

Yeah, I even bought it on DVD. It's well done and far more accurate to the book than the Buck Henry version.
The CGI looked really good. The planes looked like real planes.
