Trip to Leons and HUP movement

I hit the open road for a 8 hour trip to Leon Cleavers to pick up the tail section of HUP-2 128566. I always enjoy spending time with Leon. I think we make a good team. Leon and me loaded the HUP tail the old fashion way. The tail section is now home with me. Next trip in a few weeks to get the fuselage. Thanks Leon for helping me, hope to see you again soon. :drink3:

A chunk of HUP:

Leon had me look in his truck bed as he had some things in there for me. Leon said these are from Walter Soplata! They are radar scope units built by Hughes Aircraft company. No idea what they go to, Walter thought maybe the F-94? Will research them soon. BTW, Thanks Walter........RIP.

Hi Tom,

I had time restraints on this trip. But for the fuselage I'm making it a 2 day adventure. Including bunking down at your house. I hope you have your homeowners INC updated! :lol:

Peter - I aquired the scopes from Walter Soplata 40+ years ago and I seem to remember that he said they may have been out of an F-94, that would be about right for the looks of the size of units...

At first they didn't match...then I noticed your units are shown upside down.

JohnB - I've spent 40 years often-on in checking about as to what the Radar units applied to, very glad you were able to verify its useage. As I loaded up the units for Nathan, I noticed that some instruments were upside down compared to the others on scope panel. Maybe pilot/GIB was better able to view the gauge if were located in a low spot in cockpit?...don't know...just sayin'... geek

It's nothing that serious, it's just the way the photo is presented on the page.
If the photographer went 180 degrees around the unit and shot it, it would be fine (or to phrase it another way...They look like they're up against a pickup tailgate. If the photographer took the shot facing the truck's cab, it would be fine).
Currently (as shown) the scope is pointing straight up...they did pivot like that to allow the backseater room to get in or out.
