An A-10 Thunderbolt II, assigned to the 175th Wing, Warfield Air National Guard Base, Middle River, Maryland, taxis out for a Green Flag-West 22-02 mission, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Nov. 8, 2021. This A-10 was repainted to commemorate the 100th birthday of the Maryland Air National Guard. (U.S. Air Force photos by William R. Lewis)

I often wonder how everyone in the squadron feels about special paint planes - or how do they rotate who gets to fly it? I mean, I would want a turn in the "special" plane 8)

I wish the A-10s that fly over my house all the time (I live in Tucson) were painted like that.

An acquaintance of mine flies A-10s at Selfridge and flew the "Red Devils" anniversary jet. He brings that up every time he talks about A-10s. I wouldn't be surprised if they were similarly popular elsewhere.

To be honest, if I were in the unit, I'd rather fly as wingman to one of these jets, as you really don't enjoy the look of your jet from your own cockpit.

The air and ground crews love them. My organization was involved with the special 100 years of naval aviation themes, and everyone wanted to fly the special paint jobs, and they lasted long enough for everyone to get a chance.
