Re: Soplata Collection Sold?

I want to start off by addressing "bsoplata". While I never knew Walter, what he did for aviation history was amazing and we should all be thankful for it. I know that the family has endured many trespassers and other injustices, so I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are glad you are still willing to reach out to the community.

I remember reading that Walter was opposed to the idea of any of the aircraft that he recovered ever being flown again. With that in mind, does the family intend to try to only sell aircraft to buyers who plan on restoring them for static display?

Given that it's the only one remaining, that BT-12 needs to go to someone who will restore it to static display.

An amazing collection and I really hope the Vought F7F Cutlass is saved. A truly fascinating aeroplane and if I had the money I’d bring it home with me to the UK.

When it comes down to the sweep-up time, I could maybe then be in the running. Will there be little stuff left behind? Say for instance, those multiple control panels out of C-46's? (so cool). Stuff like that. Doo-dads. Maybe that will all go as a package deal with the planes. Was there anything cool there non-aviation? Didn't Walt have some old cars too? But those rare, inside-the-house photos hinted at all kinds of possibilities beyond air-frames. Airplane parts! And not just a little but alot!

Would love to bring it back to Stratford, CT but there is no money to speak of currently.

The family is looking for good homes for each of the birds. As the family learned with the Super Corsair when it leaves our hands we really have no control on the future of each bird.

Yep fair comment, I meant to write F7U but the fingers typed before the brain engaged.
Either way the Cutlass is an absolute beauty!

Chris - Reference your inquiry of B-17, B-24 parts...Walter at one time had 2 or 3 engine mounts off of a B-24 which he obtained at a location near Willow Run...Maybe they were sold off or are lying about with no idea what they are related to...??
