I don't think this current event will go anywhere as those against it gain momentum. IAW the news report I just watched, more politicos on both sides are lining up against it. With that said......

What kind of old planes (or crash sites) do they have down there that are realistically recoverable?

If it ever was a possibility, I'd love to see a particular Kingfisher return back home. I can think of a great place where she would be most welcomed.

Sea Fury's , AT-11's, T-33's and maybe P-51's (/) Would be interesting to know what the post WWII pre-Castro govt. was given via the lend lease program.

I was given to believe that there's only one Sea Fury left, and it's in a museum.

As far as B-26s and T-33s, who knows.

Actually there are at least two. I do have recent photos but it's been too long and I don't remember the protocol for posting. Are we still using photobucket?

Rural crash sites, maybe - a lot of their P-47s were lost that way.
As for that Kingfisher, forget it - it was captured by Castro's forces after a forced landing and became like Revolutionary Air Force #1, put to use against Batista's army in an attack on a barracks. Too historic to them to let it go.

I may be wrong but I would think anything of value would have been scooped already. The British have never not has access to Cuba.

I do find it rather sad that the first thought on here is of plundering another nation's heritage. Perhaps we should stop them keeping pets too? ;)

And I never accused you of saying that anything should be stolen. However it still saddens me that the prevailing attitute is 'what can we grab?', especially as the Furies, for example, have significant historical significance to the Cubans and none whatsoever to the US.

Rescue? Take a look at the photos on Airliners.net. Their outdoor displays of the B-26s, Kingfisher, Seafuries and the Mustang look as good or better than the Mustangs and Invaders on display outside here in the US of A...
