From Kermit Week's via Facebook:

"The fire suppression guys start tomorrow and unfortunately I've got some bad news for those that wanted to visit the "Museum" before the end of the year. They are a week behind schedule and won't be done until mid-December . . . which means we would not be able to open until Friday, December 19th. Since so many of us will be off for the Holidays . . . it looks like we will not open now until Friday, January 9th.

Sorry about that. We'll open when we open. — at Fantasy of Flight."

Hope you did have holiday plans to visit.

I'm interested to see what the "new" facility is going to look like. We visited in 2012, and it was awesome. A real whirlwind day, but we got to see almost everything..the main hangars, the maintenance hangar across the field, the "engine barn," and the restoration shop. And of course "Golden Hill" (although he didn't have the second hangar there open to the public yet.) I understand he's scaling back the "public" portion of things, but I hope for us total geaks there's still an opportunity to see all the cool stuff.

Question: Does Kermitt ever sell anything? I know he has a restorable B17 in a hanger but I don't think he has yet touched it....surely he can't get to everything? If a rather well-to-do person showed up with a briefcase of money and the will to have the B17 moved and properly restored, would he not sell it?

I don't think so. It seems that Kermit collects and collects and thats it. Which is pretty unique. I can't think of many other air museums / collections / organizations that only ebb and not flow as well. We see almost ever other group sell some assets to acquire other assets. But Kermit keeps amassing a one of a kind collection.
