I have had this 500 piece puzzle since I was 6 and recently dug it out of my old closet at my dads place.
I would be interested in knowing if this is an actual combat scheme or fictional? I know Mike Bertz's Mustang used to have these codes. One of these days I'm going to put it back together and then frame it. :)
Thanks.

Holy Time Warp!

I had that print tacked up in my room when I was a kid. Got it at the Air Force Museum.

Can't recall the artist's name. Anyone know?

Richard, The artist is JB Deneen (James Bennett) 1930-2012, check out his WW1 & 2 aircraft paintings/prints, he also did a cool print of Clint Eastwood. I have a small collection of his warbird prints, Older Air Classics reprinted lots of his work in the '60s & '70s. I love that puzzle Steve! Does it say what age for ? I might have trouble with it...Thanks for posting it, Tony

Sure, Steve & Richard, Anyone know if a current P-51D is in those markings? It would be a really cool thing to see it around today! Speaking of P-51Ds I guess with today's P.C, no present owner will paint their Mu$tang in the markings of "Big Dick", another really cool, REAL Mustang markings, too bad for us, :( just my 2 pennies...cheers, gents

Tony, The former Mike Bertz's Mustang (now owned by Mike Bingham) carried these markings but now carries Colorado Air National Guard markings.

you solved a puzzlement for me too! for years i have been looking my eyeballs out for the 2 me-109s taking off, which i also got at the USAFM back in the mid-70's. once i saw the P-51 puzzle i knew right away, that this was my man! easily recognized art style. i let the old one get away from me. i may pick it up again someday....
