There was an airicle in WARBIRDS INTL about ayear ago. IT had pictures of KERMIT WEEKS L-1. It mentioned he had another in storage. And I think it mentioned another L-1 out there. From what I gathered from the article they are pretty rare. From looking at it it would be a really cool airplane.

Back when the CAF had their L-1, they would have a low and slow race at the airshows with the L-1 and a Storch, first to cross the finish line looses. The L-1 won every time.

Coincidently...I was at Fantasy of Flight last Wednesday and the L1 is in restoration (so sorry, no pix... ...I was there for some other birds). Down to "bare bones" and some terrific quality work has been done on fuselage so far.

ww2john, the airframe above the L-1 hanging from the ceiling is the other L-1. The current one has a lot of film making history, used in making The Great Waldo Pepper........

Cheers,

Lynn

Yes, it has a motion picture history. Kemit obtained it from the Tallmantz Aviation collection, last based at Orange County Airport (a.k.a. John Wayne). It flew with extensive modifications to the rear of the cockpit to accomodate a camerman with camera and served as the photo ship for m-a-n-y motion pictures.

No P51 on a skid that I recall.

There was a P38...in pieces (same hangar as the L1, but at the opposite side, by the large roll-up door).

The M-S (please don't make me look up the spelling) was adjacent to the L1 getting some work done.

I have to look at my pictures when I finish moving my office, amidst some destruction/construction work :nuker: , to remember what else I saw under restoration at FOF.

The B23 Dragon was outside another building, close to the entry fence (to the back area) and they said that that restoration was just getting started.
 :D :) :?

Candy Clipper, the J2F Duck was up in the display hangar from Sun 'n Fun, but slated to head back to Lakeland "in a few days".
