Anyone have any insight as to why this Yak 9 is painted as a Japanese fighter? Image

Circa 2004 photo of VH-YXI which at the time was owned by a Mr Oguma (Japanese obviously). It was a tempory finish before it went to the paint shop proper.

Because it's his airplane and he can paint it any way he wishes?

You're a genius Stephan!! Its a shame you did not apply that same analogy to your comments regarding Graham Hoskings Corsair, Graham tried his best to restore & represent an aircraft that had provenance and significant history in a largely unknown conflict but that got missed in your drivel laden article!! I never said Graham Hoskings couldn't do whatever he wished with his own airplane, I simply pointed out that Ferraris will sell for $30 million to $40 million every year while far more complex and far more exciting warbirds are stuck at vastly lower value levels because they have no -real- provenance. If people made bitsa Ferraris and Mercedes, they wouldn't be worth much (comparatively) either.

Glad you liked my Aviation History article.

Looks like the Batley Townswomen's Guild is still reenacting the battle of Pearl Harbo(u)r.
