Perhaps one of the more unsung 1960's jets. 49 years from first flight to final retirement- not a bad run. While not a sexy fighter, the SLUF did what was asked of it, and I think it would have been a capable aircraft for a few more air arms in places like Central and South America, east Asia etc.

i'd say they got their money's worth out of them!! your right when saying that it was 1 of the more unsung warbirds of the 60's /70's, very versatile bird.

As a kid the Indiana National Guard used to fly those over the farm. The flew those, F-4 Phantoms, and A-10's. The A-7 guys had the most fun based on the number of rolls and such they did. Back in the 80's it wasn't unusual on a weekend to have several dozen planes fly over throughout the day. Not so much anymore :(

I was born the same week the Corsair II made its first flight.
I wish I could retire at 49

Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the first aircraft that we integrated HARM on was the A-7E. Such memories!

Are there any A-7s in civilian hands that we might see flying as Warbirds some day?

Maybe this would be a great time for someone to acquire a couple of their TA-7 two seaters!

Any idea of the operating parameters, fuel burn, parts, etc.? Would they be a feasible add to the warbird jet community?

There is a TA-7C available for purchase on the CJAA forums.

Thanks,

Tom
