Although it is nice to see a restored and flying Hurricane painted in Finnish markings for once (albeit temporary), that over-all silver Rhodesian scheme, its permanent scheme, looks absolutely stunning!

Speaking of Hurricane restorations and associated paint schemes, here's to hoping that AM274's new owner in Belgium, the Vormezeele family, keeps the plan going forth to paint it in its original Soviet markings when completed, as its initial restorer, John Norman, desired. In doing so, it would look great together with the UK-based Hangar 11 Collection Spitfire Mk.IX, when it is completed and flying in its original Soviet markings in a few years.

If the construction number is R30040, then its RCAF serial number is not 5487, according to Canadian Hurricane researchers.

I see the Platinum page says the Finnish markings are temporary movie paint, anyone know which film?

Called movie paint, because it's the same type of temporary paint, the temporary scheme is actually just for an airshow taking place in Finland on August 9-10.

The silver looks almost fake. I love the Finnish AF scheme..

Regarding the Hurricane c/n R30040 claim as being RCAF 5487, I consulted several leading Canadian Hurricane historians and received the following reply:

"If the c/n is really R30040, then this is a Canadian-built Sea Hurricane (converted to a Mk. XII) with a "BW" s/n. This particular aircraft went missing out of Bagotville in 1943. The aircraft and RAF Sgt. Bailey have never been officially found. However, rumour has it that some wreck hunters may have found it and salvaged some items.

"If the s/n is really RCAF 5487, then it does match the story that Sgt. Taylor bailed out in November 1943, while in a spin at night, flying out of Gander. That is a matter of public record. It may or may not have been salvaged at the time, but it was written off in March 1943. However, the c/n cannot be R30040, but a number (no "R") in the 48000+ range.

"It would be helpful if the owners would curtail the secrecy and tell us what he has and where he got it from (the Canadian and UK trail of ownership). If we had this information we could provide the correct history of the aircraft."

Question: If the Hurricane is indeed R30040, was there any remains of Sgt. Bailey still in the wreckage? I am sure both RAF and Bailey's family would like to know.

Sorry for making a typo in the previous post. Here is the correction:

"Sgt. Taylor bailed out in November 1943" should read, "November 1942" and the aircraft written off charge in March 1943.
