I saw John Verdi at Oshkosh the year before he died. He was in the warbird parking area and was wearing his leather flight jacket with patches and he had a pony tail. Being a Marine at the time I was embarassed as pony tails weren't popular in the 80's. My dad told me "No,No He's the real deal." Being ex-navy for my dad to say he liked him really impressed me. I remember he was a few inches over six feet tall and had the military bearing of a career type hard ass. I was told that the pony tail had to do with him being a black belt in several martial art disciplines, Tae Kwan Do, Karate, etc. He was very imposing.
After his disappearance, I think the Warbirds magazine and Air Classics did a story on him.

RickH:

Thank you!

I have known Ernesto for a few years now; he had at one time 4 or 5 T-28s outside his place in Pearland.

I have more photos of the F-9 being uncrated, but I will have to search for them.

Do you live in Pearland proper, or somewhere nearby?

Saludos,

Tulio

That’s working, Steve.

It’s visible from the highway? I’m going to have to start paying attention.

Anybody know the fate of this one. It disappeared a year ago or so. Hope it didn't get the axe.

That's the one I was talking about in my previous post. I don't know where it went but it has not been gone quite a year. I did some work in the area back in March/April of this year and it was still there, though partially disassembled at that point. It did disappear very shortly after that however.
