i must confess the blimp gondolas have intrigued me. a bit of digging, and i think they are K-class. Is there a story to any of these 3, any action-heavy survivors? it would be pretty cool to make one into some kind of a home. a dwelling. do we know the numbers of these? not that knowing that would help me any. i count on y'all to gimme the skinny. this is my fave thread in awhile. is kermit going to fly a blimp??

I think the blimps came from a junkyard in New Jersey years ago. It would be an unique addition to the airshow circuit if he got one flying.

The first time I went there years ago somebody said they were going to restore one of the blimp gondolas and put it on display...but nobody since seemed to know for sure.

so the real deals carried like 10 or 11 guys? they could make some $$$ on rides at airshows! i've wanted to go up in a blimp all my life. an warbird would make it even cooler. gotta be able to make one good one out of three. the way they are on their top, it looks like the top machine gun section may be missing? i sure would like to know more. it's an empty hangar in my aviation learnings... somebody get kermit back on the blimp dream. i'm into it! make the leftover bits into a boat, dymaxion house, or car. then he'll need a huge blimp hangar reassembled on his property, no problem!

He should be able to make all the gondolas he has to like new condition. With NEAM's recent completion of there Gondola, they're probably the most knowledgeable about the structure. Maybe they have spare parts?

I was at the auction in NJ when the gondolas were to be sold. They are really big in person and the ones with the plexi turrets in the front were really neat. Lots of neat stuff at the auction besides the blimps as well.

I met Harry Doan there, he was there to bid on the gondolas. It turned out that only one gondola was actually for sale and the reserve was unrealistic. I ended up introducing Mr. Doan to a Sikorsky H5-H (49-1999) which he bought from the owner but died before it got restored. The Sikorsky eventually ended up in the Evergreen turkey barn that burned down.

I wonder how Kermit got the gondolas?

Regards,

Art S.
