We need to restore the bungee seat mechanism in our Corsair. The tabs on the seat frame and the bungee hook were cut off to save weight as Racer 94...if the gut had taken a sugar it would have saved more than this mod.

Here's a YouTube link to machining the phenolic. Laughed my ass off with the shavings flying all over.

Gonna love this one...this was brought to me with the request to fix it. "Can you weld the cracks?"

I said, "Heck, no, but I can make a new one." Had to make a positioning fixture first then form blocks and flaring tooling. I don't have much but with a boring head for the mill, PVC sheet, the router for radius, and big hammers...oh and a wooden bowl, forming is done.

Will weld it tomorrow. Let's see. 8)

Air filter box for a Cessna Cardinal.

So, here is the new version. I know I can't weld like the guy on the original but I think mine is at least ...lighter. Ha!

Anything wrong with that? I see nothing to hide!

One can build their own replacement parts as long as the original design is followed.

I don't see any problem. As long as you follow FAA guidelines so you can protect yourself. A lot of aircraft would be yard art if it wasn't for owner produced parts.

Meanwhile, back with BU 92050...Took the LH lower structure out of the fixture today...didn't fall apart. That's good. Actually, this is a pretty good step as now i can take it to the AC and see if I have filled the missing hole properly. Don't get me wrong but there is a lot more to do. Remember, nothing existed with our project as all was thrown away after the race mods so we are starting from scratch. I can't pre-drill or pre-locate any mounting holes as they have to be correct for our plane. Then there will still be lots of refinement to get the final fit. All comes apart to heat treat all the formers and bits. Lots of riveting to finalize the structure. Then skinning will begin. Hoping we are close as I have all the RH bits and fixture made so once the LH is confirmed, the RH should go well. I'm happy so far.

Phew! I was really worried about that for some reason. They look great!

Why just use a bolt and nut when you can do it this way? Ha! By the way, these were removed in the racing days to save weight... :?

Thanks Tom and BDK for the kind words and following. You know I have no idea what I am doing, right?
