Flugwerk FW 190 D-FWMV (ex-Tom Blair) flies again

Thu Nov 07, 2013 4:28 am

Flugwerk FW 190 D-FWMV (formerly with Tom Blair at Duxford) took to the skies again at Braunschweig Airport on Tuesday, 05.11.2013. After a rebuilt and new silver paintwork at MeierMotors there was an issue with very shabby and faulty riveting on the wings. After only few flights the aircraft was grounded by the LBA. Now the FW 190 is airworthy again, hope to see her regularly in future. Below is the link to pics taken before, during and after the first flight in Braunschweig on 05.11.2013.

Thanks for the link Michael.

Great to see that the issues with this machine have been rectified.

Definitely a unique scheme. Is there any basis for these markings? Or is it just the preference of the owner?

She looks first class. Congratulations to all involved. :drinkers:

Andy, I have no idea if there is any historic basis for this markings. What I do know is, that the "V" fits, because his family name begins with V, btw the registration D-FWMV fits as well, it´s Martin V.

I thought the Tom Blair FW-190 was a Dora version. Did he own two?

@Warbird Kid: Yes, he had 2, one Dora with Allison (now with Jerry Yagen) and this one, an A-8N, it was in Duxford, UK. Never flew until MeierMotors redid it for the current owner. After only few flights the problem with the riveting got it grounded, the wings were redone at aerodata Braunschweig airport. Pics when it belonged to Tom Blair here:

P.S.: I just read on a German forum, that the pilot on Tuesday was Klaus Plasa. He also did the maidenflight of Don Hansen´s FW 190 at Baton Rouge 2 years ago.

Whatever happened to Hansen's one? Did it ever get repaired?

With regard the faulty rivets .. were these done by Meiers or someone else ?
It would really surprise me if it were Meiers because from what I have seen I only have the highest respect for their work

I believe it was the Hungarian manufacturer of sub-assemblies that Flug Werk used.

It was not a Hungarian company, it was a Romanian one. IIRC Aerostar Bacau, or something like that....

All has gone quiet on Yegan's Dora just before Meier was to begin work.

Was it for sale? Put on hold for a while? Or don't ask?

I believe that MeierMotors has been given the go-ahead to resume work on it,now that Yagen seems to have stabilized activities at his museum.
