A very nice local couple dropped by the hangar today and donated a brand new, unused Type K-3 gunsight assembly, still in its original shipping crate with original wrapping plastic and dessicant packs! This unit was made by N.C.R. (I assume that to be National Cash Register). My research shows this sight was used on the Sperry Type A-1 mid-upper turret, which was used on the B-17E/F/G models. If anyone knows this to be false, please let me know and I'll edit this post with the corrected information.

Here's the data plate:

Here's Sammy giving the new arrival a "cat scan":

These nice folks made the donation (names withheld):

Am I the only one that is blown away that there are these kinds of things still out there "new and unopened" from 70 years ago? Wow! Great find!

Back in the 70s, a friend found a stock of new K-13 gun sights with Martin turret adaptors. $5 each. I bought one. I finally sold it to a collector friend in 200o or so.
My friend who found them still has 1-2.

No. You are not alone. WOW!

Nice to see an item like this come to light where it can be appreciated by folks who know what it means.

Very cool. I like that they donated it.

Its good to see you have set up a security perimeter around the gunsight with the ferocious attack cat on the job!
