I always thought it was a "one-time flight" and that was it...

100 days to "flight worthy"....

How long was N3299F flown for? And is there any video of Hawg Wild being flown out of china lake as well?

I have a video documentary of the B-29 "It's Hog Wild" being repaired and flown out of China Lake, with several stops until they made it to Duxford. The webpage that I saved the video from seems to have been taken down. I will see if I can repost it to youtube tonight.

100 day reference is about the 100 days it took to fly Fifi out of China Lake in 1971.

Great video! It's 'Hawg Wild' is a beautiful B-29 and they've done a fantastic job restoring her.
Sad about what happened to the pilot after the flight. Wonder if they ever determined the cause of the crash? He seemed like a funny, talented guy...

IIRC, the aircraft he was flying was owned by Truly Nolen, and it just came out of heavy maintenence/repair. It is believed that the elevators were missing their counterweights....

That was a sweet video.... As with any documentary I wonder what happened to the footage that didnt make the final cut... I loved the part where the controller asked him to confirm the AC type.

It might be time to split off "Hog Wild" into its own thread.

We need something to keep ourselves going in between news releases about Doc  Right now any news seems to be few and far in between.

The last pics from May 19th:

These boards tend to get over-moderated. Hog Wild doesnt need its own thread...B-29s that came out of china lake are all on topic here....

Doc has been removed from the list of featured aircraft on the website for this year's Airventure. :(

Anyone have any updates? They have been very few and far between lately.

There is an update on DOC's Facebook page.

Here it is:

Tracy J Norman All… I’m TJ Norman and the project director on Doc. We don’t really have a full time person to do updates, so I try to get on once in a while and give updates. Here Goes. We moved Doc out doors on June 1st and onto the ramp. We successfully put on 1100 gallons of fuel last weeks with no leaks! Not bad for an entirely new fuel system. We have now been able to run the boost pumps and fuel 3 engines. Number 4 engine is giving us a bit of a fit, but we’ve had hundreds of them so we’ll get it going in short order. We’re still polishing, that never ends. We have also started the final inspections, starting at the rear of the airplane. That’s about one third done. We also have numerous “little things” we need to clean up. I know everyone wants to know when first engine run and first flight will be. Well, I do too. We’ve been doing this for 15 years, so no need to rush it now, so I’m not going to make any predictions. As they say, she’ll be ready when she’s ready. I hope this answers a few questions.
