Doc looks good in natural metal finish. Why was FIFI painted grey?

Have you never polished a large aircraft? We tried with our B-25. Lots of constant work. Not worth it. JR

Not worth it in your opinion... looks really good in mine... Polishing is a great way to get volunteers involved in a task that doesn't require much skill.

I worked for an aircraft maintenance company for a while when I was younger, doing an apprenticeship. One of the aircraft we looked after was the local charter/ambulance Beech King Air 200. As the New Guy I had to polish the spinners when it came in for a 50hr or whatever. Just doing those two tiny bits of aluminium was hard work, so I really, really, really admire the volunteers making Doc shine! :drink3:

The aluminum skin, on FIFI, has been damaged enough over the years to the point where it would be next to impossible to get it polished to look good. Once the Alclad is gone from the aluminum it's doesn't look good after polishing.

Volunteers will only volunteer once to polish a large aircraft before they'll quit.

Doc still has a few areas that need to be polished.

Why does it have to be polished? Why not just natural metal as they were in service?

I agree. Cleaning it with an aluminum brightener like CeeBee 6 would look very good, but I don't own it.
