I think they set the goal a bit high on this one. $137k is a lot of money! MAAM only set the goal at $35 on their highly successful P-61 fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. MAAM offered better rewards to, including rides for the higher dollar amounts. The Doc crew claims they can't legally sell rides yet.

Not that rewards are the only reason people donate but they are a good incentive to draw in more donations.

I think its telling of what it cost to acquire/restore/operate a B-29. Its not a p-61... I think David Tallichet said once that 299 Foxtrot almost bankrupt him. You might see "Doc's Friends" release "Doc" to a much larger (and better funded) organization. No knock on what Doc's Friends did here though. Truely an amazing feat to get those props turning.

I had my doubts at first, but a lot of people came through near the end. This is the largest Kickstarter fundraiser that I have ever contributed to that was successful! Can't wait to see Doc fly!

Hi all,
Is anyone connected with Doc able to give a progress report? I haven't heard anything since the Kickstarter wound up.

As a kickstarter donor I received a nice email from Doc's friends yesterday with a time lapse YouTube video (dark-sunrise, see link). It included a statement saying something to the effect of looking to the first flight with concerns of pending weather. Can't wait!! :supz:

Aw inspection has not occurred yet. No flights until that happens first.

My guess is we won't see Doc in the air until sometime in the spring. Doc's crew couldn't start the engines last winter due to lack of engine preheaters. Unless they've acquired some lately, they can't start the engines in the cold.

Thanks maxum96 - here it's Summer, so it's easy for me to forget that other places in the world are under snow while I crank up the office air-con!

No worries Zac. I lived in Southern California for my first 34 years before I moved to Colorado. I used to boat and waterski year round in California. I wore shorts almost all the time. Never had to winterize anything. Took me a while to get used to cold and seasonal weather here. So I get it when you forget it gets cold other places. :)

How warm does it have to be? Wichita had a high of 66 Friday, and it's supposed to be an El Nino winter.

El Nino means a harsher winter traditionally for us (Colorado) and Kansas. I believe it needs to be high 50s or above to start without preheating the engines. You may have had a daytime high temp of 66, but the rest of the time it's probably a lot colder, especially at night. And that's about 14 hours those engines are sitting in the cold temps.

IIRC there are new tenants in the hanger and doc is now outside for the winter. I think it's safe to assume the plane is closed up for the winter and you won't see (or hear) any progress until spring.
