Peter A, Do you have any pictures of TE294 when it was with the SAAF?

Unfortunately no. TE294 was 5519 of the post WWII SAAF.

No images have surfaced to date from the principal SAAF Spitfire researchers Steve McLean and Dave Becker.

I do have a shot of the front fuselage/firewall in the scrapyard of SA Metals in Cape Town.

At the risk of a little thread-drift, I was staring at a low-back Spitfire both days last weekend.

When you're doing a job with these airplanes you get a bit focused, which is proper, but every once in a while you have to look over and remind yourself how rare and wonderful the experience is.

C'mon Dave. Quit trying to derail the Spitfire thread with pictures of Spitfires! :D

I guess it's almost season end for VWoC?

Great shots
Thanks!

Yeah, Andy, that's it. We were hoping perhaps for a little ski-flying, but the Moth came back from the Maritimes in Sept with engine problems, and its Gipsy is now removed and being sent away for overhaul.

There are maintenance test flights in March, but until then for me it's the Fairchild and Robin's RV6a.

(Thread-drift sequence complete.)
