The last pictures I saw (interior and exterior) were from a few years ago and it was in pretty bad shape. It's a shame because it's the only surviving F-13 remaining (Kee Bird was the other if I'm not mistaken). It's original name was Dark Slide...

She's owned by the state of Georgia. The park is a state park.

All the planes in the park are minimally maintained. She was repainted a few years ago, but I suspect the imterior is not in good shape.

To bad it's in such rough shape. This aircraft has an actual combat history flying out of Guam during the war.

Thanks APG85. With an actual WWII history it would have been nice to at least see it displayed under cover...or better yet turned into a flyer.

I hope that she finds her way to a good museum that will put her indoors.

APG85 how did you gain access for the interior photos? Is it open certain times of the year for viewing? If so, I would like to see it myself.

Pictures from an old magazine. You wouldn't believe what I collect on surviving B-29's. Theres tons of info out there on B-17 survivors (even a book!) but the B-29 has gotten the "short end of the stick" in my opinion - of course we all have our favorites.
Makes me sick that theres a B-29 at the bottom of Lake Meade and it's "protected" by the Park Service" - give me a break . That plane needs to be raised and preserved/restored, not left to rot as a diving site. If they want that, give them a C-130 and drop it to the bottom (now my blood pressure is up)...

I'm sure it is occasionally repainted and externally cleaned, but I don't think there is an active restoration program or plans for one. It is a typical outdoor display. Little thought or attention goes toward the interior. Unfortunately corrosion is relentless and it won't last forever in the elements. Airplanes don't make good outdoors displays unless you can constantly put a lot of $$ into preventive maintenance...

This aircraft was in the 330th's inventory just prior to her coming back stateside in Nov 1945 as part of the 'Sunset Project'. I have a photo of her witha 19th BG tail but sitting in a 330th Hardstand. She was in the midst of being transferred over.

I'd like to get it and preserve it! I hope to be able to do something like that one day. I agree, get Lake Mead's B-29 up, and restore her. Then again, she's in deep dark cold fresh water.
Someone should help save the B-29s.
