THANKS for the update, SeptRepair! Look forward to your photo. Hopefully when the flight occurs in the Spring, a lot of people will get a chance to observe the flight all the way down the Washington/Oregon/California coast and then across to Florida.

Just had a crazy idea...

She needs an escort to P'cola of 1944-45 era US Navy aircraft, all in correct markings/paint. At the head of that list, I'd put Taigh's PV-2, and there are a number of TBMs, FM-2s, F4Us and an F6F or two which would be appropriate as well... maybe even Jerry Yagen's PBY-5A. Turn this into a positively epic Heritage Flight, the likes of which will probably never be seen again.

Since this isn't going to happen until early next year now, what are the odds of being able to get that lined up?

Looks great in all blue! Can't wait to see the Post WWII (Jan. 1947 on) National Insignia, "Philippine Mars" and other Lettering/numbering applied.

Good Idea, but since the Martin Mars is primarily a POST-WWII Navy aircraft (delivered to Navy between June 1945 and 1947 and served until 1956), it would be most appropriate to have some Naval aircraft in late 40's/early 50's type markings with the horizontal red stripe in the star and bars National Insignia where possible. There are several Corsairs in these type markings and some Bearcats and perhaps Tigercats too. And there is the dark blue AD-4 Skyraider from Jerry Yagen's museum in Virginia. But any type U.S. Navy aircraft that was in service after WWII anywhere during the 1946 to 1956 period would look great flying with the Mars!

According to a post over on Fence Check yesterday, it looks like the Martin Mars may possibly be scheduled to arrive at Pensacola around the weekend of July 12-13 and the time of the Pensacola Beach air show.

Hopefully this may become more clear as the summer approaches.

Wow - looks great. But I too am a little bummed that it will never fly again. But I know that I am a sentimental type and think that they should all by flying forever. . . .

I certainly hope the National Museum of Naval Aviation has plans to hangar it in the corrosive, hurricane rich, salt water environment of Florida.

If the show is canceled due to no Blue Angels, I wonder if a different time may end up being selected for the arrival of the Philippine Mars for the Naval Aviation Museum. While I would go down there in a heart beat just to see the Mars arrival and don't care about seeing the Blue Angels, I don't know if the show could be centered around the Mars and the other acts or not.

In any case, those in the know and with contacts at the Museum and other sources, PLEASE keep us updated as often as possible on the plans for the Martin Mars arrival.
