We are kinda nuke free, or some of our live in lovers like to think so, except for the nuclear power station at Lucas hieghts and a few thousand tonnes of radioative contaminated waste that our federal Govt is trying to palm off to one of the states.

But to answer your question seriously, after the war our Big english brothers wanted to stay in the top 5 of Atomic testing and god forbid they couldn't do it in their own back yard so they came to Australia and did some really stupid things with Atomic weapons. You know the usual thing, what would happen if we dropped a 50 mega tonne thingo on this group of buildings, planes, trucks, sheep, cattle...oh look they get vapourized!

We had a couple of atomic test sites here in Australia, one in the central area in Northern South Australia called Maralinga and another off the Northwest coast, the name escapes me at the minute. Woomera was a large rocket launching facility and even Nasa came over for a while to launch a couple of the early version rockets off. They even left one behind. So we have a lot of stories about aircraft being exposed to radiation and glowing in the dark, you know what I mean. But I am sure that if the Mustangs that went to America were Hot, then they wouldn't have been allowed into that country. So who knows....

Talking about Lucas Heights, you heard no doubt someone wants to take it off the Google Satellite Search to stop Terrorists from getting a good look at it. well that was just brilliant asnow all the Terrorist guys said, hey lets download that before they scrap it

Lots of stories about stuff getting buried in Australia. Got to laugh as everyone knows they're there, just no noe knows where. But they all no someone who was part of brying it. I even no some one that knows Amelia Earheart after she crashed was rescued by some natives on an Island and decided to stay there ever since.

but then, Someone once told me they clocked a Mig 25 at Mach 3 off the Coast of Adelaide. When I told him that they didn't have that kind of range he informed me that it was launched from a carrier. This was when they only had Kiev style Carriers so I stopped arguing with him at that point.

But this brings me to another Point. In 1978, I was in Townsville and I saw flying off the Coast near Magnetic Island what looked like a Badger. whilst it was a distance it did not look like anything I had seen before in Australia and definately had all the characteristics

I was in Townsville in 1978, at high school I should add, not as old as some folks here!

The guy I know from Woomera is still very much involved in Warbirds and Military museums and I would rate him at 90% reliable, he's getting on so I'd take 10% for that, so if he says they are there, then, they are there. I also have a family connection to Woomera but I'll leave that alone so we don't get side tracked again about the Buried Lancasters etc.
I've been trying to find a picture of the one which was on the corner of womma and taylors road, but I'm still looking.

But to keep t on track Places like Woomera I would have no doubt that tey buried them to stop them from glowing in the dark. I am not so sure about the ones say buried in Mt stuart in Townsville. Although I am assured that they are

Yep, Mt Stuart, Mt Louisa and Castle Hill, been through them all.

Not sure the Woomera B-29 was a glowing example, but its still there. I also recall seeing undercarriage for a B-29 in one of the warbird magazines, at a site here in Australia, Toc's or Oakey not sure.
