Warbird Information Exchange

According to Wikipedia and a recent photo tour of Davis-Monthan, the McDonnell Douglas YC-15 (72-1876) was scrapped between March and April of this year. The aircraft had been sitting in Celebrity Row. It would have been an easy tow to the Pima Air Museum!

It can be seen minus wings at the link below. It is photo 17.

The YC-15 isn't much of a serious loss as it was one of two P.O.C.'s to win the C-17 contract, I'd expect the Boeing YC-14 to be next. They are oddballs and would only interest a very small part of the general public when the appeal is to as wide an audience as you can gather using the lowest common denominator theory.

The other YC-15 was flying a few years back. Boeing got it back in flying order to do some testing which I don't think they ever got to before dropping the project. It was in Long Beach for a while. Not sure where it is now- maybe in Yuma? I hope they don't chop it up because it is too expensive to move somewhere to put on display. The last paint scheme was an attractive commercial blue and white Boeing scheme.

Years ago I saw a cool video of both of them doing formation low level flying in the desert.

The other one is at Edwards, where it was abandoned after suffering an engine problems. It has been put on display next to 'Century Circle' by one of the entrance gates to the base.

Like Mike said the second YC-15 is displayed at Edwards AFB. Which is why this one, which had been stripped for parts to make the other one fly by the way, was not worth saving. The second YC-14 is, of course, at Pima.
