This is so horrifying, I can barely fathom it. Tim, I suspect you're right... and Inspector, I could not possibly agree more. :(

As trite as it sounds, my thoughts are truly with the victims of today's dreadful crash, and their friends and families.

That's all we can say really, very very sad.

What a prick of a year it's been :(

Holding out hope that we haven't lost any more immediate warbird friends & acquaintances on the ground. God help them all.

Absolutely insane....the video I saw looked like a meteor coming down (msnbc) and then just smoke and debris. Prayers go out to all of Leeward's family and friends and of those on the ground also, let's hope we have'nt lost anymore of the 'airshow family' that were seated in the VIP area. I for one fully support just 'calling it a year' and let's start fresh next year. Lord knows what is to become of the races. But now is a time to grieve. The rest will come later.

Mark

Heard the first reports while driving back from L.A. - prayers go out to all concerned.

One report mentioned that since the start of the Reno event in the '60s there have been 19 fatalities :shock: . Is this the first time spectators have been injured or killed?

As expected, FOX is now trashing the air races.

Condolences from the Mudges.

Mudge the truly sad

ps. Have to disagree, Jeff. I've been watching Fox's coverage and it seems to me that they're reporting it just about right. I haven't seen any "OMG...OMG...We have to do something about these events" type reporting.
Although their "crawler" is still saying 12 dead, the live reporting is saying 3.

High Flight by John Magee

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunwards I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds – and done a thousand things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hovering there,

I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air,

Up, up the long delirious burning blue

I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,

Where never lark, or even eagle, flew;

And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand, and touched the face of god.

Truly a sad year in Aviation. I saw the news hours ago and am still numb

This is the first spectator fatality at a US airshow since 1952
