Hate to let you guys down on the WV jokes, but I grew up just north of there a bit. Thats the big city up there, really civilized, I'll bet they don't even burn coal in their telephones. Now I live in the southern end of the state, NOW THIS IS GOD's country. Its wild down here.

Mudge please please help with the location on this one. The location of this one has been a mystery for quite a while now...

You have seen it in person. I assume you can tell me where it is. Can you use the map via the link above to get the coordinates? Pan it, zoom in, right click on the location to get the lat and lon.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Mike...Obviously, I've seen it in person. I took the pictures.

If you use Google Earth, go to Blacksville, WV. Then follow that road east to:
39° 43’ 15.93” N
80° 12’ 02.37” W

Zoom in to that setting and you’ll be able to make out the swept wings.

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

I've been thinking about checking this old thread to see if this plane has been IDed yet (guess not), and decided to check Google Street View since all but one of Mudge's photos are gone. Sure enough:

Looks like they've added the old football scoreboard from nearby Clay-Battelle High School, home of the Senior Class taggers...

Small speedbrakes, short tail, small blow in doors. Can't tell from the photos, but I am willing to bet that it has a "poor man's flying tail". Be willing to bet that it does not have spoilers either. That all adds up to an aircraft no later than an F-84F-20-RE, or an F-84F-10-GK. I can not tell for sure from the photos, but offhand the battery compartment looks like the one on a General Motors built airplane. My guess is an F-84F-10-GK, or earlier. In either case an early F-84F. Not sure what it is, but fairly sure what it ain't!

Interesting to note, as there were two F-84F-10-GKs on display in Illinois in the towns of Mattoon and Ocin into the 1970s (51-9339 and 51-9343) that haven't been seen since then (and only 20 -10-GKs were built).

The business where this plane is displayed is Mason-Dixon Trading Post & Consignment, 5716 Mason-Dixon Hwy, Blacksville, WV 26521; owner is listed as Norman Roupe.

Nathan, I know you want a jet. I saw the way you were looking at the T-33 awhile back. Go get yourself one, save another piece of history.

The address listed above seems to be incorrect. When I type it into Google Earth it comes up as the high school which is a few miles west of the plane. I also tried to Google the business name with no luck. Anybody have contact info for the owner or know if they'd be willing to listen to offers?

I sure would love to have it. Dreaming big, but who knows. It all depends on if they want to sell it and how cheap I can get it. Maybe I can sell my soul...............

I sure would like to make a trip soon to go look at it. You guys interested in a road trip? :drink3:

The F-84F is one classy looking cold war jet. I need one for my museum!
