Here are two more pictures from my days with the Icelandic Defense Force. The F-102 is with the USAF interceptor squadron at Keflavik and the Super Connie is bringing in the beer from the USA. I hate to think what kind of damage a squadron of Bears would have done to this base with only 8-10 lawn darts to defend it. I guess that is why they sent us beer and no bullets.

A few more shots from Iceland 1963-4. While the RAF was using the Hastings for weather recon, not to be outdone the USAF sent a couple of WB-47Es to do their weather reconnaissance. Another type which passed through NAS Keflavik was the HU-16 used to monitor the ice flow and do SAR work. Again, I apologize for the marginal photography the camera was a Kodak Brownie.

It's rare to see a silver/grey USAF Albatross without the ARS yellow band.

Handley Page Hastings - pretty rare, two survive, one at IWM Duxford, one at (again!) RAF Cosford.

On a RAF transport thread on the "other" forum" I mentioned I was surprised that there were only two.
I was quickly corrected by someone who said there are four...the two you mentioned plus one in Germany and Newark (not New Jersey :) ) .

I just ran across this site. I was a plane captain/crew chief on the C-47 J pictured on this thread. (150188) I flew in that aircraft from 1964-1965. Good aircraft. We used it to supply radar installations at Hofn and Langanes.
