I saw this photo a year or two ago so it's a little dated. I believe it was at an auto race track. Never did read what the outcome was. I saw some great video taken at this location. If I can find the link I'll post it here. It wasn't in the U.S. Good-I found the link, BAD It's no longer working :(

The accident happened during practice for the 19th FAI World Grand Prix in Tokyo, November 2003.

Alexander Krotov was the pilot. Amazingly, he survived, but was very badly injured.

Makes me think of my friend who thankfully survived his crash after his Sukhoi came apart during his aerobatic routine practice.

Okay, yeah this looks like it's on the inside of turn one at Suzuka, just outside of Tokyo.

Finally ran across a working video link again. Fantastic footage and the woman pilot is really hot!

A similar screwup is the reason Joann Osterud doesn't fly airshows anymore.

When did she stop doing aerobatics, and what did she do?

She was doing a low pass at Yuma in twilight in 1997 and misjudged and hit the ground. She was thankfully ok but didn't do a show again.
