Messerschmitt Bf109 G-12 project - belonging to Hangar10 / Island Usedom

the project is coming fast along. The huge canopy is fitted to the fuselage, the DB605 mounted and work is going on with those complicated restorationworks at the upper cowling.

A two seat Bf109 is MUCH needed for pilot conversion/training on type!

No, it's the old/ex-Kindsvater Buchon that was based/flown in the US for many years. It was sold to Hangar 10 (Germany) some years back, and suffered damage, primarily to the nose and engine, in an accident a few years ago. Rather than repair/restore the aircraft back to stock Buchon configuration, Hangar 10 made the decision to have MeierMotors rebuild the aircraft as a Bf-109G-12. http://www.meiermotors.com/index.php/pr ... imitstart=

Mathias, is there any chance that Hangar 10's Bf-109G-6 "Black 8" might be flying soon?

Kind of hard to imagine this airframe was once this popular bird across the south west.



Kind of miss that scheme. And I didn't even get a chance to see her!

well, nobody was happy with that taxiing incident, but the engine was destroyed, heavy damage to the airframe. No you have the choice, to restore a Buchon for a lot of money, which you will never get back, or fulfill a dream and build up a Bf109 with DB605 and (!) dual controls ..... how should I say

@Redvanner, that the airframe got additional damage whilest salvage is not proven. The guy who is running the Bf109-site is not a clairevoyant. He was not there when the incident happened. The tail was okay, minor damage, but the Buchon got (as most surviving Buchons) also the false tailpost, so the decision was made as written above.

Just thinking aloud, in regard to Buchons and Bf-109's, these are all which are currently actively flown:

Bf 109E WkNr.1342 (N342FH) - Flying Heritage Collection (Everett, WA)
Bf 109G-4 WkNr.19257 (D-FOON) - Jerry Yagen/Military Aviation Museum (soon to be based at Virginia Beach, VA)
Bf 109G-4/Buchon coversion (D-FWME) - Messerschmitt Foundation (Germany)
HA-1112 Buchon (G-AWHE) - Spitfire Ltd (England)
HA-1112 Buchon (G-AWHK) - Historic Flying Ltd (England)

And just some of the large number of airframes which have either been under long-term restoration or are receiving various levels of maintenance/overhaul to fly again soon:

Bf 109E "6-88/C.5-88" - A Spanish Civil War combat-vet, under long-term restoration at MeierMotors in Germany, for Robs Lamplough in the UK.
Bf 109E WkNr.1983 - Airworthy restoration (likely nearing completion at this point) with German ownership - main airframe restored by Craig Charleston's shop in the UK, and wings done by Hartmair Leichtbau GmbH in Germany.
Bf 109E WkNr.2023 - Reported a number of years back to be under restoration to airworthy in "Eastern Europe" for Jerry Yagen/Military Aviation Museum (probably long out of date now).
Bf 109E WkNr.3579 (G-CIPB) - Currently housed at Biggin Hill, UK, waiting on its engine to be re-fitted/test flights, following overhaul.
Bf 109E WkNr.4034 (G-CDTI) - Reported in the last year or two that restoration to airworthy has begun at Rare Aero in the UK.
Bf 109G-6 WkNr.410077 - Under restoration to airworthy at Midwest Aero in the US (if I recall correctly, owned by Bruce Winter (owner of "Happy Jack's Go Buggy")).
Bf-109G-6 WkNr.440738 - Nearing completion to fly at MeierMotors for Hangar10 in Germany.
Bf-109G-6/Buchon conversion (D-FMBB) - Down for major overhaul, owned by the Messerschmitt Foundation.
Bf-109G-10 WkNr.151591/Buchon conversion (D-FDME) - Has been down awaiting re-fitting of overhauled engine, owned by the Messerschmitt Foundation.
Bf-109G-12/Buchon conversion (D-FMVS) - Under repair and conversion at MeierMotors for Hangar10 in Germany.
HA-1112 Buchon (N700E) - Under restoration to airworthy at the Planes of Fame Air Museum, Chino, California.
HA-1112 Buchon (OO-MAF) - Based in Belgium, owned by the Vormezeele warbird family. Reportedly undergoing minor restoration/overhaul in areas before it is flying again. The aircraft in recent years has been fitted with a Bf-109K tail, to overcome the problematic Buchon tail.

It looks to have a confidential restoration in France, done by an individual. But no more information available.

Here is a crude Youtube video of Harold's Buchon shot on the way to Roseburg, Oregon in 2005. Skip Holm was flying the Buchon and playing around. I was flying the B-25 in formation with Harold in the P-51. Raw audio so turn down the volume except for the last shot when Harold zooms by the B-25 and you can hear the Merlin over the R2600's! It was a great trip and a lot of fun to see the Buchon flying attack curves on us. Very cool to see how Harold's old Buchon is shaping up over there. Great work!
