Rick...you may know this already but those mass formations are referred to as the "Balbo"

A bit of history for our Italian Americans... It's named after Italo Balbo, who organised some of the first great mass formations for long-range flying.

And the original 'Balbo' (both the man and the aircraft) came to Chicago.

It's certainly 'one to do'!

Most venues have an atmosphere and style of their own, but Legends is unlike any other show or warbird show in the world.

The flying is tight and intense compared to most other warbird shows I've seen. On the downside, the crowding on the Tank Bank has to be experienced - or preferably not.

DX is worth a day visit on its own, and is, of course an historic USAAF base in its own right.

Sell more beer! Go! ;)

Thanks Robbo,
It's just that I have a bunch of preparations to make that all must come together at the same time. With all the minutiae I go through to make sure everything goes exactly right, Mrs. Mudge suggests I may be at bit anal retentive.
It's not that we can't "adapt and overcome" (BTDT) but I'd rather not have to deal with certain "surprises".

Mudge the prepared :supz:

Hi Rob: Great pictures, clearest I have ever seen. What was your shutter speed and aperture setting? Were you using a tripod? I am the U.S. West Coast journalist for AV8 magazine. I am interested in anything that will help produce a better product.

Flying shots are handheld with a Canon EF 400mm f4 DO IS L lens on a 5D MKII (some with a 70-200 f2.8 IS L on a 5D) at either 1/320th or 1/400th. 1/400th can be a bit fast for some subjects but it was windy and I was catching a lot of prop wash by the taxyway.

Thanks for the update. I have the Canon 400 EF 4.5-5.5 IS, shooting a Canon 7D. I will be shooting Oshkosh this coming week for AV8 magazine.
